Petar Zec was born in Sremska Mitrovica (Yugoslavia) on May 3, 1950. He completed elementary and grammar school in Banjaluka. In 1977, he received a bachelor's degree in theatre, film and TV direction from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (University of Belgrade). He also holds a bachelor's degree from Belgrade's faculty of Philology, where he completed his postgraduate studies in 1986, winning a master's degree in philology with a dissertation on Omerpasha Latas as a Novel and Possible Adaptions for theatre and TV. In 1994, a thesis entitled The Dramatic in the Works of Ivo Andric, a Concealed Dramatist brought him a PhD from the Faculty of Philology. He lives in Belgrade where he works as a professor of acting on Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He is founder of the Courtyard Theatre in Belgrade. He has staged over fifty productions in various Yugoslav theatres.
