Steve was a television sports play-by-play announcer for nearly 30 years, including serving as a TV voice of the New York Mets for seven seasons from 1983 through 1989. He also called Boston Red Sox games in 1996 and 1997 and called Major League Baseball and college basketball games for ESPN for four seasons. He served as a play by play announcer on college football games for ABC Sports between 1976 and 1997. In addition to the Mets, Red Sox, ABC, and ESPN, he called NFL and college basketball games for CBS Sports for two seasons and was a member of The Baseball Network for two years as well. Among his broadcast partners for Mets TV broadcasts were Tim McCarver, Rusty Staub, and veteran sportscaster and baseball player, Ralph Kiner. He also called baseball games for ABC and the California Angels and covered track-and-field for CBS and various Wide World of Sports events for ABC. Zabriskie attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship and played professional baseball for a few seasons before injuries ended his career. He is a devout Christian and a widower, having lost of wife of more than 30 years to cancer in 2009. He has three adult daughters and one granddaughter.
