One of Hollywood's most respected international journalists, Jorge Camara serves as Chairman of the Board of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He spent six years as HFPA President (most recently 2007-2009) and served as an officer or board member for more than 20 years. Camara joined the association in 1968. Camara is film critic for La Opinion (a daily newspaper published in Los Angeles), a position he has held since 2004 following a stint as columnist and film critic for the publication 1989-1997. He is also the Hollywood correspondent for Pandora (a weekly magazine published in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), a post he's held since 2003. Other publications for which he has written include The Hollywood Reporter, Woman's Day (Australia), Burda Publications (Germany), La Mujer De Hoy (Mexico) and TV Todo (Mexico). He worked as a correspondent, producer and critic for a variety of Hispanic television productions during the past three decades. From 1992 to 2003, he was film critic and interviewer for Univision's "Primer Impacto," a daily magazine program airing in the United States. He worked in similar capacities for Telemundo productions including "Estrenos y Estrellas," "Al Rojo Vivo," "Hollywood Hoy" and KVEA Los Angeles programming. He has also produced, directed and/or served as interviewer for a multitude of programs airing in international territories including "HBO Ole," "Cine Canal" and "Desde Hollywood" (all three for Latin America); "Contacto Visual" (Argentina) and "Cinema Video" (West Germany). Among the awards Camara has received are The Publicists Guild of America International Media Award in recognition of "outstanding coverage of film and television," and the Southern California Motion Picture Council Bronze Halo for "outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry." In addition to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Camara is a member of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and Broadcast Film Critics Association. He served as President of LAFC 1988-1990.
