Joel McIlroy appeared in varities of productions with the "Forest Youth Theatre Company". He went to the Australian Theatre for Young People and is still connected to the company. McIlroy later did a course in Theatre Directing in NIDA before appearing in guest roles on Water Rats (1996), All Saints (1998) and the feature film Angst (2000). He then joined the cast of Home and Away (1988) as Flynn Saunders, replacing Martin Dingle Wall. In his spare time away from the set of Home and Away, he likes to hang out with his friends and go to their theatre productions. He also likes to get out in the sun.
