He won national NZ titles at junior level before surfing into the history books at 17 by becoming the first New Zealander to claim a world surfing title when he won the under-18 final at the World Junior Championships in 2001. He won a further three senior NZ titles in 2008, 2010 and 2013. He competed on the world qualifying tour for 18 years while living in Australia. Quinn qualifies for Britain through his mother Pip, originally from the south Wales seaside resort of Barry. He managed to win two Welsh, two British and two European titles in 2017 and 2019.
