While attending film school at New York University, David Szulkin began working in the industry as a script reader for Miramax Films and Laurel Entertainment. After completing an internship on Laurel's syndicated TV series "Monsters", he took a job as a post-production assistant and runner, doing chores for exploitation movie legend Terry Levene and other low-budget film distributors. At the same time, he began writing professionally as a frequent contributor to Fangoria magazine. After graduating college, Szulkin wrote his best-known work, the highly-acclaimed "Last House on the Left: The Making of A Cult Classic", which told the story behind Wes Craven's notorious debut film. The book was ranked a top-ten bestseller in the UK and was later reprinted in a revised edition in 2000. The success of the "Last House" book brought Szulkin out to Hollywood, where he met up with kindred spirits Sage Stallone and Bob Murawski of Grindhouse Releasing. He came on board as head of Grindhouse's theatrical division in 2001, and co-produced the company's DVD release of "I Drink Your Blood". On his own, Szulkin produced and directed the extra features for MGM Home Entertainment's disc release of "Last House on the Left". He is currently writing his second book, a biography of Texan filmmaker S.F. "Brownie" Brownrigg. Szulkin is also involved as co-writer of a forthcoming independent feature with Stallone and actor Vincent Gallo.
