Born at Yale, New Haven Hospital in CT to mother Sydelle Pincus (a legal analyst) and father Gideon Newman (an engineer), Cheryl Newman was the youngest of older sisters Debbie and Darlene. In the early years, the family moved often, living in various states before settling in Los Angeles, CA. Once there, they continued to move frequently to different cities throughout the Southland as the result of her father's work as a contract engineer in the defense industry. As a result of the moves, she developed an accent that no one could ever quite peg, but was a mixture of accents from mainly NY, CT and CA. Making friends became almost a habit for her and she developed a chameleon-type personality when it came to fitting in. This became fodder for her later when acting and in her journalism career. It was while in college as a journalism major that she took drama and realized acting was a second calling, having a love for writing. She went on to earn a BA degree in journalism and minor in political science, working as a staff writer for newspapers and an editor for magazines. With publishing changing as a result of the internet, Cheryl began writing freelance at age 28 and began working in the entertainment industry. Having met and later married a special f/x artist, she assisted with special make-up f/x as she began taking method acting classes. found a home among others that moved to LA from around the world and too had no real home. With new people and an entirely new culture. Cheryl was quickly invited into SAG (which at the time was a separate union from AFTRA and required a director or producer to "Taft Hartley" actors into the union). She has worked as a feature and day-player actress, starred in shorts and helped her husband with special make-up f/x on A-list films. Today, she loves working as both an actress and as a writer. Like Cheryl has been much of her life, she us yet again "the new-kid in town," tinsel town now, seeking that big break.
