Boyana Balta is the middle child of three with siblings Mirjana and Aleks. Her father, Velimir Balta, escaped communism leaving the former Yugoslav with his mother by pretending to go on vacation and taking political asylum in France. Three years later, they immigrated to Montreal, Canada. There he took on the trade as a typewriter technician. Boyana's mother Milena, from the Bosnian region of the former Yugoslav, met her father through the mail and after being overseas pen-pals for some time, they married by proxy. They were already married when Milena met Velimir in person for the first time stepping off the plane in Montreal. A year later, they relocated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where Boyana Balta was born. Her parents run an office innovation store together and her mother also recently received her BA from McMaster University in 2011. Growing up, Boyana trained in a wide variety of extracurricular activities including theatre, ballet, judo, improv, piano, gymnastics, ice skating, flamenco, jazz, modern and Serbian folklore. She also lived in Japan for a year attending Kanazawa Daigako Koko in Kanazawa and learning Japanese dance as well as kendo. Her mother wanted the Balta children to have the experiences and opportunities that were not available to children in the former Yugoslav. Quickly taking a passion for acting and ballet at a young age, Boyana began an early life on the stage having worked with global dance icons such as Karen Kain, Robert DesRosiers, and Victor Litvinov with the Canadian National Ballet Youth Ensemble in a list of productions presented at Hamilton's famed Hamilton Place Theatre with a capacity of 2200 seats such as "Pinocchio", "Babar" and "Invitation to Dance". She also performed in local theatre. Growing up, Boyana attended training in theatre and improv at Lou Zamprogna's Theatre Aquarius summer and winter programs. Boyana moved to New York City in 2005, attending The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute/Tisch program and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Boyana Balta has worked in film, television, commercials, and on stage. Her most recent credits include AMC's Preacher, Wild Card, When the Bough Breaks and The Last Exorcism II.
