After graduating in Fine Arts in 1948, he entered the Animation Department of the Shanghai Motion Pictures Studio as animator in 1949 up to 1957. During this time he worked under the guidance of the reputed Wan brothers and began to direct his own short films from 1955. Finally he decided become a free-lance artist. His first famous animated short film was "Gold Dream" (1963). Wang not only worked in the cartoon animation, but also puppet animation ("Again in the Roadside", 1964) and also experimented with live action ("Young Trumpeter", 1973). Finally he made his most prominent film in 1979, "Na Cha Noisy Sea" (also known as "Prince Nezha's Triumph Against Dragon King") and co-directed with Yan Ding-Xian and Xu Jing-Da. This film was the first animation long feature in China shot in wide-screen.
