Hiram was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He studied briefly at Saint Peter's College before dropping out to pursue a career in television editing. After years of working as a cable news editor, he wrote and directed the award-winning micro-budget comedy Four Dead Batteries (2005). He later became a Nicholl Fellowship Finalist for his coming-of-age screenplay "Ansiedad," released by Lionsgate as Girl In Progress (2012) starring Eva Mendes. Hiram has written on-assignment for HBO, Points West Pictures, and Warner Brothers Television.
