Kim Ray is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Originally from metro-Detroit, she attended the College For Creative Studies on a photography scholarship before earning her B.A. in Film from University of Michigan. She began her career in New York, working in film and commercial production and then as a Creative Executive in Film, Drama and Performing Arts at A&E Networks. Ray holds an MFA in Production/Directing from USC's School of Cinematic Arts where she Co-Wrote and Produced the musical-comedy West Bank Story which premiered at Sundance, won dozens of festivals worldwide and won the Oscar for Best Short Narrative Film. She also wrote and directed The Connection, an award-winning science-fiction short which was mentored by Avatar producer Jon Landau. Ray has directed commercials for Fortune 500 clients and Executive Produced and Directed premium documentary television including Gaga: Five Foot Two for Netflix and the short-form series for Quibi, About Face, which chronicled icons in the beauty industry, among others. She is the recipient of dozens of awards, including MTV Awards Best Documentary, BlueCat Screenwriting Quarterfinalists, Austin Film Festival Semifinalists, Mary Pickford Production Scholarship, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Fellowship. Ray aims to create socially conscious work and is drawn to science, politics, history, music and pop-culture.
