Steven Wiig is a filmmaker, musician and actor best known for his roles in Sean Penn's "Into The Wild", Gus Van Sant's "Milk" and James Franco's childhood-inspired "Yosemite". Steven grew up drawing, making making music and movies in the rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan. While studying art and psychology at Northern Michigan University, he played music, worked as a college radio DJ and was the in-house artist at the local comic book store. After moving to Minnesota and playing music with his band The Martichora, Wiig relocated to Northern California, accepting an offer to work with the heavy metal band Metallica after years of collaborating as drummer in the Metallica side-project Papa Wheelie. Traveling the world for over a decade as writer, photographer, videographer and personal assistant, he first appeared on the big screen as himself in the band's award-winning documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster". Encouraged to pursue acting by fellow Marin County friends Robin Wright and Sean Penn, Wiig was quickly cast in Penn's "Into the Wild". "I came to know Steve Wiig as an actor by accident" reflects Penn. "We'd become pals, and in his storytelling I'd see him transform into some wonderful characters. He was just a natural so I said, "What do you think of going pro?" I'm glad he did." Soon after, Wiig acted alongside Penn in his Oscar Winning performance for the Gus Van Sant biopic "Milk". As a member of the Screen Actor's Guild, Steven worked in numerous films with well-known directors, including Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master", Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine", Tim Burton's "Big Eyes" and Jordan Peele's "Us". Along with screentime in blockbuster movies like "Godzilla" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", Wiig is also know for his diverse lead roles in award-winning independent films such as the dark and gritty Dead Metaphors (which features songs by Tom Waits) and the comedic, self-parodying "Waiting For Wiig" (which he was also asked to direct). Steven Wiig still resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with his family and has enjoyed many years of working on both sides of the camera. Most recently been busy recording with a heavy new music project called Shrakys, who just released their debut album "Anthems For The Damaged" which is available on all streaming platforms.
