Born Joe Gilchrist on June 16, 1948 in Pampa, Texas, he legally changed his name to Coleman (no first name) in 1976. He is a theatre graduate of Cornell University (1970). Branches is his only movie credit. He also appeared in season one of the 2013 web series, Chic. He is the author of numerous plays, including a published collection - Faux Poe, and the author of an award winning memoir, Spoke. He was in no way connected with My Hope or Last American Roadhouse.
