Rick Alyea was born Richard Allan Robert Alyea in Vancouver, British Columbia on August 2, 1978 and has lived there his entire life. Rick took advantage of the age of digital filmmaking in the mid 2000's shooting his first feature film Part of the Game for a mere $15,000. 'Part of the Game' competed in the 2004 Whistler Film Festival and was nominated for the Borsos Award (Best Canadian Film). In 2005 he made the short 'Puck This' and sold it to the CBC. In 2007 he made his second feature film 'That One Nigh't that went on to play numerous festivals and was sold internationally. That film was a modest $100,000 budget. All of the aforementioned films were written, directed and produced by Rick. With the film industry drastically changing in the late 2000's and the difficulty of securing financing for indie films Rick turned to his entrepreneur instincts and opened his first furniture store in 2009. As of 2018 Rick has 3 stores in total specializing in outdoor modern furniture. Having the financial stability to choose projects that felt personal to him, Rick was approached by his longtime friend Zach Lipovsky to Executive Produce the feature film Freaks which was co written and co directed with Adam B Stein. Freaks was selected to TIFF in 2018 and was sold a day after the screening to Well Go USA. The sale had one of highest MG deals in TIFF history for a Canadian Film. Freaks went on to win various film festivals and also picked up individual awards for the directors (Zach and Adam), the editor (Sabrina Pitre) and Best Actor (Bruce Dern) Freaks will be released theatrically August 23rd 2019. Rick and his company My Way Productions have a number of projects in development.
