Heidi Marshall's career has spanned several media and arts professions: theater director, casting director, opera director, and film director. Heidi is the Founder of Heidi Marshall Studio which has been running for 15+ years in NYC. Heidi is considered a top acting coach for Film, TV, and Theater. At the start of her career, Heidi was the lead Casting Director for over 70 productions of theater, film, voice overs, and commercials while working with Telsey+CO in New York City. Heidi's casting ranged from Broadway musicals (RENT - lead casting director for it's first 7 years, Hairspray, Aida, Paul Simon's The Capeman, etc.) to Off-Broadway (award-winning LAByrinth Theater Company for two years) to regional theaters (La Jolla Playhouse, Hartford Stage, McCarter Theater, etc.) to independent films (Downtown:A Street Tale and The Understudy) to studio films (Finding Forrester, Blair Witch Project 2). Heidi no longer casts professionally, but she's always happy to refer actors from her Studio to projects. As a Film Director, Heidi has received prestigious awards for her directing: including the NY Drama League Theater Directing Fellowship and the prestigious American Film Institute (AFI) Directing Workshop for Women Fellowship. In 2005, AFI selected Heidi as 1 of 8 women with professional backgrounds to support in the transition to directing film and TV. Heidi's first short film, "A through M" played at over 22 film festivals. Heidi's recent short film MUSCLE has played at over 30 film festivals and won 6 awards. She is developing a feature film to direct with writer/producer Johnny Sanchez. Other professional directing credits from the past years include an invitation from director Baz Luhrmann (film director, Moulin Rouge) to be the Resident Director on Luhrmann's La Boheme on Broadway and at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theater, where she remounted/directed it for Luhrmann. Luhrmann entrusted his productions to Heidi's detailed direction of acting and visual components. She was also Resident Director of the Off-Broadway hit, Shockheaded Peter, artistically guiding the show in its American transfer from London's West End. She has also directed multi-media live events at Lincoln Center, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and in Miami, Florida. Heidi is a long-time advocate for diversity on film and TV behind the scenes and in front of the camera. She has also launched a new workshop, Actors As Creators, to support Actors becoming empowered as Creators of their own careers.
