Daniel Rodríguez Risco

Daniel Rodríguez Risco is a Peruvian director, writer and producer. His first short film, El Colchón (The Mattress), received a Special Mention at the Cartagena IFF and the award for Best Short Film at Conacine (Peru). His next short, Triunfador (The Winner), was selected at the Festival du Court Métrages at Clermont-Ferrand and was distributed internationally by Canal-Plus. He received a scholarship to study a MFA in Film at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. After that, he directed Páramo (Moor), based on a short story by Italian author Alberto Moravia. His fourth short, El Diente de Oro (The Gold Tooth), won the Jury Prize at the Montreal World Film Festival, presided by Theo Angelopolous. Cuellos Almidonados (Starched Collars), his new short film, was shot during the pandemic, and is starting its festival route. He has directed four feature films. El Acuarelista (The Watercolorist), obtained a grant from the Global Film Initiative. His next film, El Vientre (The Womb), a coproduction with Explora Films (Spain), earned him a Best Director nomination at the Vancouver IFF. In 2016, he released the films No Estamos Solos (We Are Not Alone) and Siete Semillas (Seven Seeds), starring Javier Cámara. All his feature films have enjoyed wide theatrical distribution in Latin America and have been acquired by HBO, NETFLIX, FOX, CANAL PLUS, among others. He was also Associate Producer of Altiplano, a European co-production which premiered at Cannes; and, together with Wanda Films (Spain), co-produced the documentary Chavín de Huántar, el teatro del más allá (Chavin de Huantar, the theatre beyond), which premiered at the National Geographic Channel. He is currently at work on a new feature film and a series.
