Dorotheea Petre is a well-known Romanian actress. Throughout her career she has received significant acting awards, as well as numerous nominations in international film festivals. At age 23, she debuted with the leading role in Ryna, a feature film directed by Ruxandra Zenide and produced by Strada Film. Ryna received over 30 international awards and Dorotheea received the Debut award from the Transilvania International Film Festival, as well as the Special Jury Prize at the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg. In 2005, Dorotheea plays the main part in How I Spent the End of the world. For this role Dorotheea received international recognition and Special Jury Prize for Best Actress at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard section. This award was created for her in the Un Certain Regard section and it was the first one to be received by a Romanian actor. In 2007, she was declared Best Actress of the Year by the Association of Film Critics and Specialized Journalists, she receives Gopo Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well as the UCIN Award for Best Actress. In 2009 she wins the Special Jury award for Best Actress in Magna Graecia Film Festival for her role in the film Mar Nero. For her acting "talent and artistic sensibility", she is vested with Cultural Merit distinction, Knight of the President of Romania. Plays in Mar Nero production in March (2008), the lead role in La Solution Migliore (2009), L'enfance d'Icarus (2008), The Whistleblower (2009), Doctors for mothers (2008), Music in the Blood (2009).
