Nathan Theys was born in the Cape Flat's suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa. One of three children to his mother Joan and father Ronald Theys. His father was one of the first people of colour to have sung opera professionally during the apartheid era. Brought up in the arts Nathan learned his first taste of directing at the New Africa Theatre Association under the wings of South Africa's first female playwright Fatima Dike and playwright and actor Ian Bruce. He then worked for the Cape Heart Educational Theatre company working with South African theatre giants Ivan Abrahams, Andre Samuels and Mark Hoeben. This is where he learned a lot of his craft to direct actors. After being rejected many a time to work in the South African film industry Nathan then found the inspiration to search elsewhere. He then moved to the UK where he acquired a bursary to study directing at the London Film Academy where he learned from BAFTA Award winning director Richard Kwietnovsky and Stanley Kubrick's steady cam operator John Ward. Nathan immediately started making alot of works and almost immediately got picked up by Dave Gulvin from Century Media Records UK where he directed music videos for Grammy Award Winning Bands. Nathan went onto direct more than forty short narrative films, some winning awards in festivals Internationally. In his body of work he directed British Icon, Sir Donald Sinden in 'Blowing Dandelions', Vuyo Dabula (Netflix Queen Sono) in 'Redemption' and Tom Pritchard (The Windsors) in 'Whispers of Smoke'. Nathan also directed numerous children's dramas, one in particular 'iFuture My Future' got nominated for Best Director in the 'International Childrens Film Festival'. Additionally three of his children's dramas got selected as the Official Anti-bullying films in the UK. These films got programmed for schools at all the Picture House Cinemas UK. He then got accepted into the Open Horizon Director Mentorship Scheme where he worked closely with his mentor (British Award Winning Director) Menhaj Huda. Nathan got shortlisted at the Cannes Directors Fortnight Talent and won the Script Competition at the Cape Town International Film Festival as well as the 'NFVF Development Funding Award' for his feature 'Ronald' a film about his father who was one of the first people of colour to have sung opera professionally during the apartheid era. . Nathan founded 'Film Creatives Productions' where he produced and directing more than five hundred commercials for clients such as Sony, Spring Studios, Hogarths UK, MTV, Louis Vitton, Century Media and others.
