Rachel Mathews is a writer and director working in television, film and radio. After the treatment of the film won the Wellcome Trust's prestigious 'Inspired by Science' award, Rachel spent six months researching the project with scientists working on the latest developments in memory manipulation. Rachel has travelled to Myanmar (formerly Burma) for over a decade and is directing and screenwriting tutor at the Yangon Film School (www.yangonfilmschool.org) in the country's former capital. She has trained and worked with many Burmese writers and filmmakers. In 2017/18 she was show-runner of Season 2 of the Myanmar TV drama series 'The Sun, The Moon & The Truth' (10 x 30 min) upon which she had the pleasure of working with six talented female Burmese writers she had previously trained. The series screened on Myanmar TV in 2018 and is popular on YouTube. Rachel has written three radio plays for BBC Radio 4, including 'Murdering My Dad' which was chosen by poet Ian McMillian as his 'pick of the week' in June 2016. She is working with German screenwriter Andreas Fuhrmann to develop drama series ideas, including the dramedy 'Island Monkeys' which is under option to Headline Pictures in the UK.
