Mr. Abella was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba in 1976 and has lived in Gainesville, Florida since 2016 with his family. In 2004, Mr. Abella graduated from the Faculty of Art of Audiovisual Media (FAMCA) at the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA) with a degree in Audiovisual Media specializing in film, radio and television Management. During the last 25 years Mr. Abella worked in Cuban film and television. He directed the following documentaries: Ascenso (24 minutos) 2004; Hasta Santiago... y (12 minutos) 2010; El Canto es... la vida (27 minutos) 2012; Contando con Onelio (34 minutos) 2014. Films for television: Tenemos que hablar (57 minutos) 2009, Un amigo inesperado (110 minutos) 2010, La primera vez (115 minutos) 2011, 16 años... (120 minutos) 2013. The animated short Foto de familia (12 minutos) 2014 and 45 episodes of the 30 minute the television series Zoológico, 2016; and Hemingway: Between Key West and Cuba, 2018, a 30-minute documentary produced by Santa Fe College and Santa Fe College Foundation, Inc. Mr. Abella has extensive experience giving workshops on contemporary Cuban cinema and audiovisual language and he is also a screenwriter, actor and audiovisual producer who has been recognized internationally at cinematic events and festivals.
