John Dove grew up in Smithtown Long Island, the 2nd of five brothers in a large, close knit, Italian family. Writing for television is John's second career. After completing a 2 year Associates Degree at a local community college studying journalism, he joined the ranks of the New York City Police Department in 1982 where he served for 21 years retiring at the rank of Detective Lieutenant. John spent time in the K-9 Unit as both as a handler and trainer, the plain clothes task force tackling street crime, the robbery squad as a Detective Sergeant. He worked in the Police Commissioner's Special Investigations Unit under Commissioner Bratton. He spent two year in Internal Affairs as a Detective Lieutenant before Commanding the Brooklyn Cold Case Homicide Squad. In the aftermath on the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001, as a Detective Lieutenant in the NYPD Intelligence Division, John supervised a squad working in a joint FBI Task Force tracking down terrorist leads. Following that assignment John Commanded a Criminal Intelligence Uint before retiring in 2002. During his police career John was a paid contributor to the Opinion Editorial Section of the New York Daily News on police related matters. He also consulted as a technical advisor on the CBS shows, "The "District" and "CSI:Miami". In 2000 John returned to school taking evening classes and completed his Bachelors Degree in English from the Empire State College. in 2005 John was hired as a consultant in the writer's room on CSI:NY. After two years he was hired as a writer and eventually rose to the level of co-executive producer when the show ended in 2014. Since then he has gone on to write for five other shows producing and writing almost fifty episodes of television. John is married and has three adult children.
