Tyler B. Robinson is an Emmy winning production designer who moved to Portland, Oregon in 1998 following a prolonged series of adventures ranging from Honorable Service in the US Army, to cross country hitchhiking trips (US & Europe), and seasonal employment to support a snowboarding habit. His time as a reconnaissance squad leader and weapons specialist in the Army honed his natural tendencies toward leadership, communication, and creative problem solving while his vagabond lifestyle developed creativity, an ability to quickly adapt to unpredictable changes, and a genuine desire to avoid normalcy. Once settled in Portland, he used the GI Bill to attended Portland Community College and obtained an internship at Food Chain Films, which sparked the beginning of his design-based film career. Working locally, he cut his teeth on commercials, independent films, and webisodes before being offered the TV pilot for IFC's Portlandia, which he continued to production design through season five. Robinson and his Portlandia team have won several awards for their work on the series including a Primetime Emmy® and two Art Director's Guild awards. He has since gone on to production design two FX shows with Portlandia director, Jonathan Krisel, including Baskets and the pilot episode of Man Seeking Woman. Robinson's feature film credits include Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, The Kings of Summer, and the cult hit The FP. When reviewing The Kings of Summer, film critic Christopher Redmond of Dear Cast & Crew said of Robinson's work: "Your production design in this film isn't just impressive - it's moving. Like an emotional time capsule, each set piece transported me back into adolescence. Not by recreating a specific era, but by evoking an overall feeling." In his spare time, Robinson enjoys slowing down and enjoying Portland by bicycle, playing pinball in the local barcades, rubbing his cat's fuzzy belly, and designing and fabricating fantasy weapons including functional cupcake cannons and banana split Gatling guns.
