Alex originally studied painting and drawing at the internationally renowned Glasgow School of Art in Scotland and later went on to study and graduate in Production Design at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in 2004 where he was awarded the Fox Award for excellence in production design. Alex has recently designed two feature films including Men's group (dir by Michael Joy) and In Our Name (dir Chris Tuckfield) and has a Co-design credit on the Singaporean film Dance of the Dragon starring Jason Scott Lee. Alex has worked on multiple Australian feature films as Art Director including West (dir Dan Krige), Newcastle (dir Dan Castle), PrimeMover (dir David Ceasar), Scorched (telemovie Goalpost Pictures/Channel 9) and most recently the award winning second series of Lockie Leonard. Alex's Production design work on short films is extensive. On many of these films Alex's collaborations with the cinematographers have seen them go on to win prestigious cinematography awards - a testament to Alex's ability to collaborate creatively with cinematographers. These include Life @ 24 frames and Room 14 (DOP John Radel) each of which were awarded a Gold ACS Award in 2003, the film "Blackberries" (DOP John Radel) awarded 4 cinematography awards including a Silver ACS Award 2003, The Temecula Valley International Film Festival award for Best Cinematography 2004, The Critic' Circle Award for Best Cinematography 2004 and the Kodak Australia wide Cinematography Award 2005. And more recently, Alex's collaboration with award winning cinematographer Nicola Daley on Play (Dir Ben West) earned her a Best Cinematography Award at Flickerfest Film Festival 2008 as well as a bronze ACS ward 2007.
