Andre John Otane King was born on 6 November 1972 in Tokoroa, New Zealand to Rupert & Barbara King. He has one brother (Nick King) His father was prominent in the Country and Western scene and encouraged him to sing, he started performing country songs aged five and became an accomplished yodeler. He continued singing through high school performing as a soloist in his school choir and festivals with the Hamilton Operatic Society. After leaving school, Andre worked in a number of different vocations including a prize fighter, NZ Army (RNZInfantry) then investigations and security work. In 2000, having been medically discharged from the military and dissatisfied with his previous careers, Andre embarked upon a career within the Arts. Andre had performed as a magician for his own children, but wanted to branch out into more adult oriented events and so started performing stand up comedy as a method of improving his patter. Very quickly though, he found himself being booked more and more as a comedian. His work in stand-up lead to television work which began with a small role on TV 3's 'Eating Media Lunch'. Since then Andre has performed in several TV shows and films, he has toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe and South East Asia headlining theatres around the world. Eventually Andre returned from the UK and based himself back home in NZ. Pre-Covid, Andre was highly sought after as an entertainer on cruise ships, his fast paced, zipping lines and clean comedy style was a huge hit and saw him travelling often in excess of 200 days a year. In 2019 he was confirmed as the fourth member of the revised version of The Howard Morrison Quartet. Unfortunately due to injury he was not able to complete the scheduled 19 date tour and had to withdraw. Andre is based in Nelson New Zealand where he works out of his own studio providing voice talent, in addition to performing stand up for corporate events, acting and tutelage on the art and craft of stand up comedy. He is a member of the NZ Comedy Guild, The NZ Writers Guild, Nga Aho Whakaari and Actors Equity.
