Actress Helen (Nitsa) Avatangelou was born in the city of Smyrna, located in the Aegean coast of Anatolia. She attended acting courses at the renowned Greek Drama School of the National Conservatory. She appeared mainly in international productions that were filmed in Greece, such as O Hristos xanastavronetai (1975), It Happened in Athens (1962), Zorba the Greek (1964), Phaedra (1962), among many other films. Nitsa Avatangelou is also known for Mitros and Mitrousis in Athens (1960), Kokkovios kai Sparos sta dihtya tis Arahnis (1967), O Patouhas (1972), and An Italian in Greece (1958).
