Anita Thompson, bestselling author of The Gonzo Way, & wife to the late Hunter S. Thompson, began working as his writing assistant in 1999. She earned her degree from Columbia University in American Studies after publishing her second book, Ancient Gonzo Wisdom. Before moving to Aspen, she was a full-time fundraiser for groups such as the Sierra Club while elected to chapter chairperson of the largest student group at UCLA, CALPIRG. She began that life while working for the California Desert Protection Act that was championed by Diane Feinstein & Barbara Boxer. She lives and works at Owl Farm, in Woody Creek, Colorado.
