Ole Lippmann (1916-2002) was a leader of the Danish Resistance during the Nazi occupation of Denmark. He helped save approximately 6,000 Jews by smuggling them to Sweden. He also planned and carried out sabotage operations that included blowing up ships, trains, and buildings. On March 21, 1945 he called in an RAF air strike against the Gestapo Headquarters in Copenhagen. While successful in destroying both the building and the intelligence contained in it, there were also civilian casualties when the smoke from a crashed plane was mistaken as the target. A nearby school was bombed, and children and teachers were killed. Lippmann expressed deep regret for this but supported his decision to call in the strike. He was also involved in the Hungarian Uprising of 1956, organizing medical supplies and assistance. A book on his life (En Kriger or "A Warrior") was published in Danish in 2005.
