Kathryn Burns began acting at age ten in musical theater in the southeast, while also concentrating on a variety of interests and endeavors from competitive swimming to ballet/Pointe. Later as an adult, she began acting professionally after earning her masters degree in education. She studied extensively at the Film Actors Studio in Charlotte, North Carolina with Lon Bumgarner, Carl McIntyre, and Marilyn Carter. She also studied drama at Winthrop University (SC); Central Peidmont College (NC); and William Paterson University (NJ) as an exchange student. While living and working in the southeast market, she was represented by Evolution Talent and Artists Resource Agency. For many years, she pursued both a teaching and acting career simultaneously (while earning her National Board Certified Teacher credentials) but now solely works as an actor/model and stay-at-home-mom. Kathryn has been represented by Acclaim Talent Agency in Texas and Louisiana ever since relocating to Austin several years ago with her actor husband Alan Nelson. The couple, who met on the set of a NASCAR/AT&T commercial while still in Charlotte, started a family recently. Their two young daughters, Siobhan Elizabeth and Genevieve Nelson, are already represented by Acclaim Talent as well. They sometimes get to act and model together as a family. Kathryn has enjoyed such local and regional theater credits as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Violet Bradman in Blithe Spirit, and Jo in Independence. Her acting resume also includes principal roles in award-winning films which were official selections at multiple film festivals, including the San Francisco International Film Festival. Kathryn has also had principal roles in print/Internet ads, industrials, and commercials for Capital One, Uber, Walgreens, San Antonio Shoes (a national chain), US Oncology, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Lojack for Laptops, and more. She appears in HBO's The Leftovers, Season 2 as a Core Guilty Remnant/"Stripper." Additionally, she was the Stand-In for Janel Moloney in one episode of The Leftovers. She has recently played the lead role in an educational video for Digestive Health Associates of Texas. She shoots and collaborates regularly with established photographers in the state of Texas and has studied voice, voice over, dialects, dance, and acting with Austin's finest: CK McFarland, Elizabeth Reeder, Brad and Kimberly Burton, Todd Dellinger, Whitney Presley, Emily Bem, Diane Howard, Danny Herman, and Rocker Verastique. She is a classically trained singer who has studied for over ten years with various teachers, including Suzanne Schell, Mariann Cook, and Jeanne Rees. In addition to her film and TV credits, Kathryn has done runway modeling for local boutiques, national chains, TV shows, organizations, events, designers, etc.; has been hostess of Charlotte's Fight Night for Kids as well as announcer at Austin's South By Southwest Film and Music Festival Trade Show for multiple years in a row; has print modeled for the Charlotte Film Festival, Austin Independent School District, numerous photographers' studio galleries, press kits, and websites, etc.; has held leadership positions at film festivals; has written and directed several children's plays; has been a children's acting coach and career consultant; has co-owned and managed a theater company in the past; has performed voice over work for web-casts, CDs, movies, etc.; and has appeared in twenty plays and four full-length ballets. When not acting, Kathryn enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, having a permanent adventurous "staycation" in Austin, day trips and road trips, camping, reading, cooking, volunteering, performing vocals in a new Austin 90s band, photography, weight training and cardio, hiking, wineries, art galleries, yoga, and live music.
