A Chicago native... Sonya started at an early age in dance; teaching for the KC Friends of Alvin Ailey. Two years from her doctorate, she received a Masters from UNLV and a BFA from PVA&M University in Texas. After graduating, she hit the Vegas stage before returning home to star in such plays as "LoveChild" and "Forever My Darling." Later, she auditioned for Tyler Perry, who hired her on the spot. She would later go on to co-star in such plays as "Madea's Family Reunion," and "Why Did I Get Married." After studying at IOWest and nabbing the coveted 2011 NAACP Theater Award for "Best Leading Actress" for the role in "For Color Girls..." she went on to create the comedy web series "Involuntarily Single" and the action-thriller television project Break. After completing her directing debut for a 15 minute BCA Graphic Podcast she is set to develop and produce next year's slate for Maenkind, Inc US.
