Jay Stern is a writer/director/producer based in New York City. His has directed four feature films, most recently "Say My Name," which was shot in Wales in 2017 and opened in the US in the summer of 2019. In addition to features, Jay has produced and directed multiple short films and music videos, and produced Victor Varnado's feature documentary "The Awkward Comedy Show," which premiered on Comedy Central. Jay is also a founder, producer, and co-host of the Iron Mule Short Comedy Screening Series, which has been screening monthly since April, 2002. As a theater director, notable work includes "Butterflies," "Beulah Land," "The Worth of Women," and "The Bardy Bunch: the War of the Families Partridge and Brady." Jay studied filmmaking at the Vancouver Film School and screenwriting at Columbia University, where he studied with Terry Southern. He earned his PhD in Media Philosophy from the European Graduate School, where he studied with Peter Greenaway, Claude Lanzmann, Volker Schlöndorff, John Waters, Jacques Derrida, and Agnès Varda.
