Valerie Bernard was born and raised in New York City. Her mother and father allowed her to express her artistic abilities at an early age. When she was 11 they allowing her to use the family 16 MM moving picture camera. She offered her neighborhood playmates participation in her 16-MM film projects. Valerie wrote her first play which was performed in a summer school when she was only 16 years old. After graduating from Fashion Industries she worked for the Susan Thomas Dress company but was not interested in dress making. She was interested in anything related to the arts and so she concentrated on finding work in that industry. By the early 1990's Valerie Bernard was advised to do voice overs and through submitting for this work she secured an internship with Sarah Hyde Hamelet Casting who provided talent for major motion pictures such as Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing as well as many other feature films, commercials and music videos. In addition to interning for Sarah Hyde Hamelet Valerie Bernard worked with the original staff at Sylvia Fay Casting which enabled her to help to provide background actor's for many major motion pictures and TV shows such as Carlito's Way, Cowboy Way, Law and Order. Other collaborations were on the films Above the Rim and NJ Drive. In addition to films, Valerie Bernard booked many NY location music video's for James Grimes owner of J and G Productions who mostly had clients in the hip hop industry such as Jay-z, Onix, Redman, Wutang Clan, SWV and others. In addition Valerie Bernard provided talent for Bad Boy Records 112 group, Salt and Pepper and Deep Blue Something. She assisted casting director Adean Duron on numerous other music videos projects shot in NY in addition to TV commercials and industrial ads. Valerie Bernard also booked talent for Therma-systems, Coca Cola and The Music Awards. After providing talent for the film Tree Shade in 1998 Valerie Bernard was inspired by Award winning director Lisa Collins to write and direct her own projects so she crossed over to writing films and directing. Her first work was a documentary titled Women who Love Inmates in 1998 which enabled her to appear on the talk show Ricki Lake speaking from the audience on the topic of relationships with inmates. Valerie Bernard's reality show That's My Kid Up There cast was featured on the Dr Phil talk show in addition to the Dr. Keith Ablow talk show. This encouraged her to complete numerous other projects. Valerie Bernard plans to continue to make her mark in the entertainment industry and looks forward to tackling new and more challenging projects.
