Maria Ciaccia was born in Rochester, New York. She began studying voice as a teenager and ultimately worked as an opera singer both in Europe and the United States until she turned to writing about film and celebrities in 1988. Besides writing, she has worked as a researcher/interviewer for writers Barry Paris (Louise Brooks, Garbo, Audrey Hepburn biographies, Tony Curtis autobiography, Song of Haiti, assisted with editing of the two Stella Adler books on playwrights), and David Stenn (Jean Harlow).
