Film director Howie Askins grew up on a farm in rural upstate New York where comic books and dusk till dawn drive-in movies became nourishment for his creative needs at a very young age. Howie proved early on to be be an unusually gifted filmmaker when his self produced short films began sweeping local film festivals before he even graduated high school. At his local college, Howie flirted with theater, acting, and video production before getting down to business and making the big move... Los Angeles: In the late nineties Howie began freelancing successfully as a video artist and editor, producing, shooting, and cutting countless video productions. Music videos, short films, and everything in between kept his visual story telling skills sharp. One of Howie's most recent shorts "The Donation" a dark comedy about a lonely woman looking to be impregnated, swept the Extreme 48 Hour Film Festival in Hollywood, California, taking both the audience and jury awards. Howie's "do it yourself if you want it done right" approach and his blue collar work ethic earned him respect among his pears and in 2007 after his atmospheric short film "Shifting" enjoyed a nice run in the global festival circuit, he found himself crewed up and funded for his first feature "Devil Girl", a fantasy/thriller set on a twilight zone-ish Route 66. "Devil Girl" proved to be a modest success, finding distribution worldwide. In the process, Howie discovered the true finesse of achieving a vision and stretching the film making dollar. Howie's feature, the cinema verite experience, "Evidence", made big waves in the horror film community. Fangoria says "Evidence is truly scary...directed by Howie Askins, Evidence is a prime example of independent filmmakers doing something a little different with an established formula." Dread Central writes "Evidence is a movie that you'll be talking and thinking about long after the credits roll... Every now and again a flick comes along that gets our attention in a big way by defying the odds and pulling off something that is, for the most part, completely unique. Howie Askins' Evidence is exactly that kind of experience." Howie continues to develop more films like "Mercy Jones" a horror thriller about an imaginative boy who is forced to face a grim reality when his home is invaded by an infamous serial killer, and an as of yet untitled Spielbergian horror adventure about a group of youngsters defending their farm from an onslaught of mysterious creepy critters.
