Alex grew up in South Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Started doing radio and television work at the age of 9. In radio he did a number of voice overs for the PNE, General Motors, and was the voice of a VTech children's educational toy called "Fishing for Phonics". In television, he appeared in Police Academy with Michael Winslow, Cold Squad, several commercials, and a TV pilot called It's Ture. By the age of 12, decided to focus on his studies in school but spent most of his time studying theatre, acting in almost all of his high school's productions - his pinnacle role being the Emcee in Cabaret. After graduating high school, he attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA), earning a diploma after 3 years of studies. During his 3rd year at CCPA, he was a member of the elite 12 person semi-professional Company C college theatre company, where they performed 3 full scale productions in only 4 months. The productions were Shakespeare's "As You Like It", a musical titled "City of Angels" directed by Jeff Hyslop, and Neil Simon's "Laughter on the 23rd Floor".
