In 2016, Rosalyn Rosen wrote and directed her first narrative feature film, "The Other Kind," starring Jo Harvey Allen (Fried Green Tomatoes, David Byrne's True Stories) and Richard Dillard (Friday Night Lights, Dazed and Confused) with Cinematography by Lee Daniel (Boyhood, Before Sunrise). "The Other Kind," was in 22 film festivals, including screenings in New York, LA, Austin, London and Berlin and won 15 awards for Best Feature, Best Director, Best of Show, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor. "The Other Kind" has distribution with Indican Pictures. Rosalyn's first foray as a filmmaker was a short film she wrote and directed, "Why Is The Dog Howlin', Momma?," starring Jo Harvey Allen and Todd Lowe (True Blood, Gilmore Girls). The film screened at festivals in NYC, LA ,Santa Fe and Houston, winning "Best Original Dramatic Short Film" at WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival and a Four Star Review from FilmThreat.com. Subsequently, for Epic Records, Rosalyn directed the multi-platinum Grammy winning Los Lonely Boys' music videos for "Heaven," "More Than Love," and "Diamonds." She also directed and edited the concert film "Los Lonely Boys Live at the Fillmore" that aired nationally on PBS and was released on DVD by SonyBMG Music. Multi-platinum, Grammy nominated, Hassidic reggae rapper, Matisyahu, also received his launch through Rosalyn's music video, "King Without A Crown," the lead single from his Gold CD, "Matisyahu Live at Stubbs." Rosalyn's music videos have also garnered awards and nominations. Her video for "Heaven" received the Austin Music Network's award for "Best Rock Video" and ranked in the Top Twenty in "Vh1's Top Forty Videos of 2004." "Heaven" was also nominated for two CMT Music Awards: "Best Video of the Year by a Duo or Group" and "Breakthrough Video of the Year." Rosalyn's "King Without A Crown" video was the #1 most streamed video on MTVu.com. It was also nominated for two MTVu Woodie Awards - "Breaking Woodie" and "Left Field Woodie." Rosalyn is also a screenwriter and nationally produced playwright, winning the Grand Prize at the 2016 American Movie Awards for her play, Supremacy, in their Stage Play Competition, as well as winning the 2016 Texas Playwrights Festival. Her screenplay adaptation of the play won Best Screenplay Drama at the 2018 Los Angeles Screenplay Contest, Best Screenplay at the 2017 The Poe Contest and Best Unproduced Script at the 2016 International Filmmakers Festival of World Cinema Berlin. Supremacy was also an Official Finalist in the 2018 Hollywood Hills Screenplay Competition, the 2017 New York Screenplay Contest, the 2016 Beverly Hills Screenplay Contest and the 2016 Hollywood Screenplay Contest. Rosalyn's screenplay adaptation of her play, Praying Mantis in a Jar, won Best Screenplay at the 2020 London International Screenwriting Competition. Her screenplay adaptation of her play, The Apeman of Manhattan, won Best Screenplay 1st Place at the 2016 New York International Screenplay Awards. Her play, Why Is The Dog Howlin', Momma?, won the Gold Prize in the 2018 World Series of Screenwriting Contest in their stage play competition. And her play, Red Sea, won the Bronze Award in the 2016 Hollywood Screenplay Contest, also in their stage play competition. Rosalyn's original screenplay, My Sex Life, won Best Screenplay at the 2015 Laugh or Die Comedy Festival. My Sex Life pilot won the 2018 Hollywood Hills Screenplay Competition and the 2018 Southern California Screenplay Competition. My Sex Life pilot was also an Official Finalist in the 2019 Page Turner Screenplay Competition, the 2016 Hollywood Screenplay Contest and the 2016 World Series of Screenwriting Competition. Rosalyn's pilot, Highland Drive, won the Best Crime Short Screenplay Award at the 2019 Los Angeles Crime and Horror Film Festival. Rosalyn's original screenplay, JAKE: The Power of the Ruby, won the Bronze Award in the 2016 Hollywood Screenplay Contest and was an Official Finalist at the 2018 West Field Screenwriting Awards, the 2016 Los Angeles Screenplay Contest, and the 2015 New York Screenplay Contest. Rosalyn began her writing and directing career in theatre. In addition to being produced nationally, Rosalyn was one of the resident playwrights at Capitol City Playhouse in Austin, Texas. When CCP closed, she founded Remembrance Through The Performing Arts where she served as Artistic Director. The plays that Rosalyn and her Director of New Play Development, Marla Dean, directed, developed and/or produced received excellent reviews from the New York Times, won the National Play Award, the Kennedy Center Award for New American Plays, the NYC Pilgrim Project Award and multiple Austin Critics Table Awards and Austin Circle of Theatre Awards. Her company also received grants from the Austin Arts Commission and the Texas Commission on the Arts for over twelve years. Rosalyn produced the critically acclaimed CD soundtrack from her concert film, "Los Lonely Boys Live At The Fillmore." She also co-wrote "Velvet Sky," Los Lonely Boys' third single off their self-titled Grammy Award winning album.
