Born in Papua New Guinea in 1977, Russell Kirkby (A New Zealand citizen) was certain by the age of sixteen that directing films would be his goal in life. In 1994 he went to South Seas Film and TV School in New Zealand and a few years later, after working in the industry on commercials and TV shows such as Xena: The Warrior Princess, he acquired a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts from Unitec, Auckland. He is most well known for his short films Nova and Cogito, which he wrote and directed. Russell now lives in Los Angeles.
