City of birth : No data

Hawaiian big wave surfer Kealoha Daniel Kaio Sr. hailed from Laie, Oahu. Kealoha first started surfing at age 23 in 1958. A well known and regarded regular surfer at Sunset Beach on Hawaii's North Shore, Kaio's refined and elegant style enabled him to place third in the 1963 Makaha International contest. Moreover, Kealoha's habit of keeping his arms and hands low while making turns on big waves became one of the key components of big wave surfing as well as a trait that was passed on to fellow Hawaiian big wave pioneers Eddie Aikau and Jeff Hakman. Kaio competed in the inaugural 1965 Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championship contest. However, by the end of the 1960's Kealoha retired from the surf scene altogether due to the fact that he had eight children to feed and went on to work as a commercial fisherman. He died in 2005.
