Filmmaker-performer Susheel Bibbs (aka Cheryl Susheel Bibbs), a native of St. Louis, MO, is an acclaimed touring singer, an author, and an award-winning director-filmmaker. She also founded the new Living Heritage Foundation in Sacramento. Bibbs tours for screenings and performances as an actress and singer, and continues work on Independent films. Bibbs has sung internationally in opera, in concert, on television and in films and continues to concertize. Today she is best known for award-winning PBS documentaries and her one-woman touring presentations on Mary Pleasant, The Mother of Civil Rights in California. Bibbs' talents combine in her award-winning films -- on Black Classical Song (An Unsung Muse), on Mary Ellen Pleasant (Meet Mary Pleasant and The Legacy of Mary Ellen Pleaant), and on The Hyers Sisters (Voices for Freedom). To date Bibbs has won 2 CPB "Best Program" Awards, an Action for Children's Television Award, a national Emmy, 2 Telly Awards, and 12 Film-Festival documentary awards as filmmaker, writer, and performer. She also received the title "foremost expert on Mary Ellen Pleasant (Mother of Civil Rights in California)" from the Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco and their Highest Commendation, which cited her outstanding contributions to the arts and humanities.
