Karen Hunter is the founder of Rose Mountain Productions (RMPRO) and producer-cinematographer of 3 award winning documentaries. Karen's initial vision of Rose Mountain Productions was sparked when an opportunity arose to travel with a team of doctors and researchers to videotape families with Huntington's Disease in the barrios of Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela. Karen witnessed extremely poor living conditions and unimaginable poverty in these communities, which left a long and lasting impression on her heart and mind. Watching the compassion and care that the medical team showed to the many, many families living in Maracaibo changed her life forever. Karen developed an undying passion for other stories like these and believes they need to be shared. Karen became a videographer and editor for the MIT/Harvard Medical students class HST160, filming class lectures and clinics. After completing a year of intensive classwork, graduating in 2005, with a professional certificate in digital filmmaking, Karen launched her new career as an independent filmmaker. For her final student project, Karen co-produced, co-directed, and co-edited a documentary about the history of the first English style bells in the U.S.,that hung in the tower of the Old North Church in 1745, titled, The Poetry of Steeples: Change Ringing in Boston. The first person to ring the bells was Paul Revere. Today the bells are still ringing. By the beginning of 2009, Karen completed her first 3, award winning, feature length documentaries as a Producer, titled, PlaybyPlayMen and The Art of the Perfect Call, HENRY O!, and Bleacher Boys. Karen's documentaries have won several awards: 29th Annual, Breckenridge Festival of Film, 2009, Best Documentary in the Latin Category, HENRY O!, The Connecticutt Film Festival, 2009, Best Documentary: Sports-Team, Henry O!, Beverly Hills Film Festival, Audience Choice Award: Best Documentary, 2009, HENRY O!, The Accolade Film Awards, Award of Excellence: feature documentary, 2009, Bleacher Boys, New England Film and Video Festival, Best Documentary Feature, 2007, PlayByPlayMen: and the Art of the Perfect Call, Central Florida Film Festival, Best Documentary Finalist, 2007, PlayByPlayMen: and the Art of the Perfect Call. Prior to Karen's filmmaking aspirations, she co-owned and operated a successful restaurant for ten years, The Old Vienna Kaffeehaus and Restaurant in Westborough Massachusetts. Along with Karen's fine culinary and pastry skills, she has extensive training in fine arts. Karen is a graduate of Quinsigimond Community College with an Associates in Science: Applied Arts /Graphic Arts 2000 and University of Massachusetts Lowell with a BA Graphic Design 2004. Karen has also attended other colleges and universities: The Worcester Art Museum/Clark University, Rhode Island School of Design.
