Michelle Tea

Michelle Tea is an writer, director and actress. She is the author of over a dozen works of memoir, fiction and poetry, including the cult classic Valencia, the illustrated Rent Girl, and the critically acclaimed Black Wave. She has created a young adult fantasy trilogy about mermaids for McSweeney's (Mermaid in Chelsea Creek, Girl at the Bottom of the Sea, Castle on the River Vistula). She is co-creator of the infamous Sister Spit performance tours and creator of the popular Drag Queen Story Hours. She wrote and directed Release the Bats, a short film about a teenage Goth girl trying to make a vampire movie in spite of high school bullies, dysfunctional parenting and menacing skinheads.
