Joe Saldana was born in San Jose, California and grew up in Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of 18 he moved back to California to pursue his interest in music production and formed a progressive rock/hip-hop band with Aaron Huisenfeldt (his production company business partner) in 1995. Two years later they started an independent record label company called Barking Tiger Productions and recorded their band Big MF's first album, Magnolia. While producing and writing popular music with Aaron Huisenfeldt, they scored several independent films that premiered in various film festivals. Directing their first music video for the song "U Can't Ride" sparked their interest in the art of film-making, and in 2005 they began making their first film, the full-feature "Fists of Righteous Harmony" which was premiered at the Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival on December 27, 2007 and released worldwide on February 19, 2008.
