The Edsels were a "doo-wop" group formed in the small town of Campbell, OH, in the late '50s. Its members were George Jones Jr., James Reynolds, Marshall Sewell, Harry Greene and Larry Greene. They auditioned for a small Ohio music publisher in 1958, who was impressed enough with them to get them a record contract with a small label called Dub Records. Their first record for Dub was a song written by group member Jones, called "Rama Lama Ding Dong" (misspelled on the record's label as "Lama Rama Ding Dong"). The song was a fairly respectable hit locally, but did nothing nationally. Three years later some DJs in the area began playing the song again, because it had similarities to a hit song at the time, "Blue Moon" by The Marcels. It garnered such attention that a few months later it was released nationally by Twin Records--spelled correctly this time--and became a hit, peaking at #21. Unfortunately, by the time this happened, The Edsels had already broken up
