A Philadelphia Rythem and Blues quintet that specialized in ballads, that formed in 1953, comprised of Lee Andrews (b. Arthur Lee Andrew Thompson), Butch Curry, Ted Weems, and Roy and Wendell Calhoun. They had successive hits from 1957-1958 with "Long Lonely Night", "Teardrops" and "Try The Impossible", the first two of which became instant standards. Lee Andrews has a smooth sounding voice comparable to Nat "King" Cole. The Group followed up their recording success with "Why Do I" and big band era standard "Maybe You'll Be There" (I go out walking after midnight). In 1959, after touring, the group disbanded but Lee Andrews performed with other groups and some known as "The Hearts" including one as a family affair with Lee, his wife Jackie, son Ahmir, and daughter Dawn in 1971. The group reunited in 1999 for a PBS TV Special, "Doo Wop 50".
