Leonard Joseph is an award-winning filmmaker based in New York. He is an associate producer on Mr. Soul! (2018), which was shortlisted for the 93rd Academy Awards. The film won the 2021 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Documentary (Television or Motion Picture), the 2020 Critics Choice Award for Best First Documentary Feature, and received two additional NAACP Image Awards nominations and four additional Critics Choice nominations, including Best Feature Documentary for each. The film was nominated for the 2021 Cinema Eye Honors. His work includes the short film Contact High: A Visual History of Hip-Hop (2019). Joseph produced, wrote and directed the short film Dreams at the End of the Rope (2010) with Reverse Angle Productions, an independent film and television production company he founded in 2008. The film received the Gold Remi award at the 43rd Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, honorable mention at the 9th Urban Mediamakers Film Festival Atlanta, and was an official selection at the International Black Film Festival of Nashville. Joseph was in the original Broadway cast of Miss Saigon, where he performed the role of John. In Disney's The Lion King on Broadway, Joseph performed the role of Banzai. Joseph has toured nationally and internationally in numerous musical theater productions, and can be seen and heard in national commercials, videos, and voice overs. Joseph was honored to make a special appearance on the cover of L'Uomo Vogue (Italy), known to be the most authoritative men's fashion magazine in the world. He is developing, writing and editing new projects.
