Roberto Di Matteo is a former footballer and manager, born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland to Italian parents. Di Matteo played in Switzerland for 5 years, before signing for Italian Serie A side Lazio and then moving to Chelsea, where he spent the rest of his playing career, becoming a fans' favorite. After a triple leg fracture, he was forced to retire at 31, having played 175 games for Chelsea, scoring 26 goals. Having managed lower league sides, Di Matteo was hired as Chelsea's assistant coach under Andre Villas Boas, and then taking over in a caretaker position as head coach until the end of the 2012 season. That year he led Chelsea to win the Champions League trophy, the highest honor in club football.
