Roger Sonnier

Roger Sonnier is best known for his smile, and southern mannerism, the youngest of five children born to Rogers Sonnier a Long Shore man and Theresa Sonnier an Upholsterer by trade. Rogers parents both natives of Appaluscious Louisiana. Roger who is a native of San Francisco grew up in the Fillmore, more commonly known as the western addition. Roger was raised in a comfortable flat, owned by his grandmother Gertrude Ware, established by generations of of hardworking ancestors, Rogers grandparents were welders, and carpenters by trade, in fact both grandfathers were a part of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. Rogers grandmother a remarkable woman worked as a welder in the shipyards. A plumber by trade Roger ventured out on his own by owning and operating his own plumbing company, the plumbing company gave Roger, and his family a comfortable lifestyle, and the chance for Roger to do what he loves best, building custom low riders from the ground up, Roger also would go on to record a rap album. His passion for God, and the Universe has kept him true to his middle school crush, married for 18 years and the father of two wonderful sons. Roger caught the proverbial acting bug in the summer of 2003, Roger immediately enrolled into theater classes at Contra Costa College, it was there he began to understand what theater, and the art of acting was all about, and the acting bug began to transform into Rogers craft, it was then with the support from his wife, and children Roger would relocate his family to southern California to fine tune his craft into perfection. At Antelope Valley College Roger would be introduced to the key principles of method acting through the teachings of Constantin Stanislavsky,It was also around this time Roger had a read with casting agent Keith Wolf, who recommended the Van Mar Academy of motion picture,& Television acting, here Roger studied with the great Ivan Markoto Jr. who Roger lovingly refers to as pops, at the Academy he would come to be known as a Character Actor, while taking direction from Ivan Markota on business, presentation,taking direction,and cold reading.Other instructors would also prove to be beneficial to Rogers skill including cold reading,television, and comedy with Steve Cardwell. Method acting instructed by Toni Boldi in this class the teachings of Stanislavsky, and Sanford Meisner would be embedded into Roger as an actors responsibility and how to begin a honorable history of a believable character actor, Roger also would partake in an intensive camera techniques instructed by Adrian Carr. After 18 months at the Van Mar Academy Roger made a tough decision, by leaving the Academy to start achieving his Hollywood aspirations, by taking the knowledge, and experience gained from the Van Mar Academy to which Ivan Markota operates with forty plus years of experience, and know how as a film actor, producer, and director, to which Roger attributes most of his knowledge from. It was at this time Roger began to go on Auditions, that he made the discovery that going on auditions gave him a chance to exercise his skill, Roger also discovered that not only was he an actor,he was also becoming a reactor, Roger realized that by reacting in the moment, a skilled actor never acts because everything they say, learn, and do is in the moment of the character he/she portrays. Roger has a constant thirst for knowledge, and self-improvement, he is constantly enrolling in such classes.
