B.J. Mendelson was born on April 25, 1983 in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. He is the son of Richard P. Mendelson and Paula E. (Cohen) Mendelson. Mendelson is the brother to Brad, Eric, Matthew, Melissa, and Keith Mendelson. He grew up in Monroe, New York, and lived in Potsdam, New York, Albany, New York, Glens Falls, New York, South Glens Falls, New York, and Chicago, Illinois. Mendelson attended Monroe-Woodbury Senior High School where he is a 2001 graduate, and he also attended Alfred State College and the State University of New York at Potsdam. Mendelson is a 2006 graduate of SUNY Potsdam and the only student, and youngest individual, in the school's history to create and endow a scholarship, named for his grandfather Oscar Cohen. Mendelson worked for Jake Sasseville, host of The Edge With Jake Sasseville, as the show's Social Media Director (a.k.a. New Media Director) and one of the coordinators of the Jake After Jimmy viral marketing campaign. Mendelson is most known for being the author of the book, Social Media Is Bullshit.
