Yan Wen has spanned more than 50 years from filming supporting actresses in black-and-white films in the 1940s to a leading role's mother in a popular Chinese soap opera in the 1990s. Around 1945, she began to participate in the performance of the drama "Home" (playing the supporting role of Shen Shi) and was responsible for preparing more than 100 costumes for more than 20 characters in the whole play. After that, she participated in many supporting actresses in black and white films. After 1949, he worked as an actor at the Beijing People's Art Theater and participated in dramas such as "Tiger Rune". Persecuted by the political movement in 1957, she was sent to the Great Northern Wilderness Farm for so-called "reform through labor", and then stayed in the Jiamusi Agricultural and Reclamation Bureau Art Troupe until she was allowed to return to Beijing after 1980s and resumed her work as an actor at the Beijing People's Art Theater.
