Born and raised on the famous Eastside of Long Beach, Ca. mostly made famous by rapper Snoop Dogg and rock band Sublime. Actor Darrius Garrett has dreamed of being a professional in the Entertainment Industry doing what he loves most; entertaining. Since the age of 2, Darrius has performed for different church plays and Talent shows in the LA area growing up. Darrius was faced with many adversities and obstacles while facing a fork in the road. This was when he met a life-altering teacher named Erin Gruwell. She taught him about change and challenged him to change his life for the better. Darrius made the right decision, which led him to be part of one of the most admirable groups of authors and young people to serve their community entitled "The Freedom Writers." Darrius became a catalyst for change upon co-writing a book entitled "Freedom Writers Diary." The book sold millions of copies and achieved numerous awards, including reaching #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list. The book was picked up by Actress Hilary Swank and made into a major film entitled "Freedom Writer," released in 2007.(MTV/ Paramount) In the movie, the character "Marcus" is about Darrius and his story of being jailed, homeless, and living on the streets while in High School. That was one of the most life-changing experiences ever in Darrius life. Being on the set of Freedom Writers, Darrius states that he felt at home in front of the camera. He soon realized that is where he needed to be. At that moment, Darrius realized what he has been missing, his love for acting and having the opportunity to create and breathe life into a character to tell a story. Ever since that day, Darrius has vowed to get into the Business of acting and give 150% to being the best actor he could be. Since then, Darrius joined the Theater Program at El Camino college-Compton under the guidance of the late Professor Dr. PJ Van Neil. Darrius has been part of two productions and wrote a Play entitled "Greater Visions" performed in the schools' Theater. Darrius stepped away for a few years to be the best dad he could be to his four daughters in which two of them have become actresses themselves. Now Darrius has returned to his first love to perfect his skill as an actor & writer.
