London-based director and writer, born in 1981 in war-torn Beirut, Lebanon. The son of a photographer, Merass started experimenting with film and photography at an early age. Merass studied film across major cities, namely New York, London and Paris before kicking off his career as assistant director and casting director on mainstream feature productions authored by some of the Middle East's most prominent directors. He then moved on to direct and write projects of his own. Sadek's latest multi-award-winning and Festival-nominee shorts include I Shot Einstein, a documentary highlighting the life of photographer Marilyn Stafford, and Elwoods Ark, a short fiction filmed in Brighton. Merass also directed TV series, such as Valet Parking starring Mohamad Akil (Four Lions), music videos for global music labels like Ninja Tune and branded content for both blue-chip organizations and UK-based institutions.
